Are you pregnant? If so, congratulations on this new exciting phase of your life! (If not yet, but would like to be, please read about acupuncture for fertility).
Many women have easy pregnancies and feel good throughout. But it is also natural to have some discomfort as your body is changing and hormone levels are surging. Acupuncture is extremely safe during all stages of pregnancy and can help with common complaints when treatment is done by a skilled practitioner.  The focus during each trimester is different, and always tailored to your specific symptoms and complaints.  Monthly treatment during pregnancy helps to keep you healthy and energized, which makes for a healthier pregnancy overall.  If you have a history of miscarriage, acupuncture is very helpful during the first trimester to hold and support a healthy pregnancy.
At any time during pregnancy acupuncture can provide a lot of comfort and relief from some of these common issues:

  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Edema and Swelling
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Leg Cramps
  • Fatigue and Exhaustion
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Mood changes

Labor Preparation:

Acupuncture can be very helpful in the final weeks of pregnancy leading up to delivery.  It can promote relaxation, open the hip and pelvic regions, and release tension in the body.   Many women say that treatment also allows them to draw inward and feel more centered, calm and emotionally prepared for labor.  An acupressure manual is available for clients (and their partners or birth support team) to learn acupressure points to use before and during labor for pain relief.
(Please note that due to insurance reasons, breech presentation treatments and labor inductions with acupuncture are not performed, as these are considered obstetrics treatments.)

Postpartum care:

The birth experience can be very depleting physically as well as emotionally for some women.   Acupuncture treatment can help smooth the postpartum transition and speed healing.  Treatment is also helpful to promote lactation and bolster your milk supply.  New mothers can receive help for:

  • Fatigue
  • Postpartum Depression & Mood changes
  • Mastitis
  • Insufficient Lactation
  • Post Operative (C-section) Healing
  • Night Sweats
